A Shadow's Prayer

I wish that she would cut me free
But stay with me, inside of me, I wish
She would be mine and I was hers,
Not in this diseased verse
But in a place where peace is,
Where the birdsong never ceases,
Except at night.
                In the thoughtful meadow
The lover of her velvet shadow
I would be free but chained to her,
My love explained to her.
We would stay together - my love and I,
As time, as lives, as clouds pass by,
These cruel kingdoms could not drive us apart
Like they have done, they would not start
With cavilling voices and angry tongues,
Our love would silence them and we'd stay young.
